The Canal Society of New York State is a non-profit organization that brings together canal enthusiasts from across New York to protect historic canal sites and features; support the revitalization of canals and the development of canal ports, recreational facilities, canal trails and other related amenities, and; present and interpret canal history.

Lakes to Locks Passage is a National Scenic Byway that furthers the appreciation, recognition, stewardship, and revitalization of the natural, cultural, recreational, and historic assets of the communities along the interconnected waterway of the upper Hudson River, Champlain Canal, Lake George, Lake Champlain, Chambly Canal, and Richelieu River.

Mohawk Valley Heritage Corridor Commission preserves, promotes, and celebrates the natural, cultural, and historic assets of the Mohawk Valley Heritage Corridor, a New York State Heritage Area, in order to enhance quality of life and stimulate economic vitality throughout the corridor. http://mvhcc.org >>
The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. New York State Canal Corporation is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and promotion of the 524-mile NYS Canal System. New York State Education Department, under the direction of the Board of Regents, governs education from prekindergarten to graduate school. The Board and Department also govern 39 licensed professions, provide vocational and educational services to people with disabilities, guide local and government records programs, oversee public broadcasting, and operate the State Archives, Library, and Museum.

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation manages 178 parks and 35 historic sites, totaling 325,000 acres of lands and water, with annual visitation over 57 million.
