   National Park Service (NPS) Northeast Regional Director Dennis Reidenbach has selected Beth Sciumeca as the executive director of the 524 mile Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.
7-May-2008 Waterford Harbor Now a WiFi Waterfront
   The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor has installed free wireless Internet access at the Waterford Harbor Visitor Center at Lock 2 in Waterford. The service will be available during the canal season, from May through November.

   The American Planning Association (APA) has named the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Preservation and Management Plan recipient of the 2008 Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan, the organization's top national planning award.

   WATERFORD, NY (10/1/07) - The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor today announced the winners of its 2007 Photo Contest. The twelve winning photographs and twelve honorable mention photographs will be included in the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor 2008 Calendar.
17-Aug-2007 New Erie Canalway Gateway Signs Unveiled
   SYRACUSE, NY (8/17/07)- Motorists along the NYS Thruway from Albany to Buffalo, the I87 Northway, and a number of state roads are starting to see new gateway signs to the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, thanks to federal transportation dollars secured by Congressman James Walsh. The new road signs were unveiled at the Syracuse Inner Harbor on Friday, August 17. The 162 brown and white signs, which include the National Park Service arrowhead logo and the words “Entering Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor,” present a unified and consistent image that draws attention to the Corridor among the approximately 50 to 60 million people who will see them each year.

   The Communications and Outreach Director will develop and implement an overall communications and outreach strategy in support of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Program. He or she will work closely with the Erie Canalway Executive Director, staff, and consultants to produce communications materials that will engage and inform various internal and external audiences, including the media, about the numerous activities and programs of the Erie Canalway NHC and will take lead responsibility for designing and maintaining the Erie Canalway NHC website. 27-Sep-2007 Lois McClure Completes 1,000 Mile Journey
   WATERFORD (9/27/07)- The Grand Canal Journey of the Lois McClure has come full circle as the 1862 canal schooner heads home to Lake Champlain after completing her 1,000-mile, 100 day voyage through the heart of Upstate New York. The majestic vessel left her home port at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in June, traveling throughout the NYS Canal System to celebrate national significance of the Erie Canalway. More than 30,400 people from 25 states and six countries stepped on board for free tours at more than 25 ports-of-call.
